Peponi Hotel, Lamu Island

Lamu island is the very root of Swahili culture in East Africa, which centuries ago spread down the coast from the north. A little paradise one should visit at least once!

Peponi is a small hotel offering 24 guest rooms divided into superior and standard rooms. They all have ocean views, the difference between them is the location, size and private outside area. All rooms have fans, mosquito nets, showers, personal safe and fresh flowers. Each room is different and 5 of them are built right on the beach.

A swimming pool is available under two baobab trees facing the ocean and the beach is one the few remaining untouched beaches in the Kenyan coastline, the spectacular Shela Beach with 12 kilometers of white sands and dunes offering excellent swimming and an idyllic setting for a walk at dawn or sunset.

Peponi offers great cuisine and stunning settings to enjoy it. Only fresh ingredients are used and they offer a good variety of dishes wether it be fresh seafood, sushi or traditional Swahili style cooking.

The bar offers a great opportunity to meet Shela habitants and to enjoy their signature cocktail ‘Old Pal’.
